The Equinix-NVIDIA blog of March 2025 is the only public NCP sustainability artifact and it is a 7-minute post, not a framework. The closed-loop, biogas-prime, server-heat-to-digester pattern lives in the silences of that post. NGEP is the metric that makes the silence publishable. San José is the live deployment that produces the data. The white paper is the artifact that makes it the rubric.

The Equinix-NVIDIA blogis the entire public commitment#

The only publicly-indexed NCP sustainability artifact authored by NVIDIA today is a March 2025 blog post. We start there because everything else is white space.

The artifact is a co-authored Equinix blog post of 6 March 2025, written by Tiffany Osias of Equinix xScale and Andria Zou of NVIDIA Global AI DC Strategy. It is seven minutes long. Andria Zou's other public statements on NCP sustainability are LinkedIn posts, Data Center World speaking engagements, and her Equinix author page. No standalone NVIDIA-domain technical paper authored solely by NVIDIA on NCP sustainability has been published.

This is the published commitment surface. It is small. It is also the only thing the rest of the partner ecosystem has to navigate by. The silences in that surface are the topography of the white paper.

The white paper opportunity is additive, not duplicative
San José's design choices map cleanly onto the silent column. The white paper is therefore the first systematic articulation of an NCP sustainability rubric in a single document. Andria Zou as co-author, with the MicroLink CTO and the City of San José sustainability lead. Target publication twelve months after first commercial operation, allowing four full quarters of operational data.

NGEP is the metric thatnames what is not yet named#

No standards body publishes a metric for the case where the host facility's own generation displaces more grid energy than the data centre draws. NGEP is the proposed name and the proposed methodology.

The framework lives in the silences. There is no IEEE, ISO, IEC, FERC, EPRI, LBNL, Uptime, or Green Grid metric for what happens when an industrial host's existing cogeneration is freed by the AI workload's heat return, and the result is a net export of grid-displacing electrons. The vocabulary does not exist because the configuration does not exist at scale.

We propose the name. Net Grid Energy Position.

Why NGEP > 0 is a credible claim at this sitespecifically

The San José Regional WWTP runs an existing ~14 MW cogeneration nameplate against a documented ~11 MW plant load. The 1 MW IT pod plus auxiliaries at PUE 1.12 adds ~1.12 MW total facility draw, equivalent to ~9,811 MWh per year. Combined demand stays under cogen capacity. The NGEP > 0 claim is supportable subject to the metering and exclusivity rules above.

Why NGEP needs a sponsor beforeit gets named

A metric without a sponsor is a footnote. The NCP rubric is the only sustainability framework with NVIDIA's name on it that other partners actually consult. Andria Zou is the named owner of the rubric in publicly-traceable form. If NGEP is to become a category alongside PUE, ERE, ERF, and WUE inside that rubric, it has to enter through her.

California AB 1305 makes the framework necessary, not optional
If MicroLink markets "negative grid impact" anywhere public-facing, AB 1305 disclosures become mandatory. The Voluntary Carbon Market Disclosures Act requires anyone making net-zero or significant-emissions-reduction claims to publish source-and-methodology disclosures with annual updates, under penalty up to $2,500 per day capped at $500,000. The NGEP framework is the disclosure compliance, not just the marketing claim.

The ladder structure is the answer to the implicit question every regulator and every reviewer asks: does the claim survive the most demanding active rule? San José's design clears the German 2028 benchmark from day one because the closed thermodynamic loop is engineered, not bolted on. The white paper externalises the proof.

The framework is the contribution. The site is the proof. The white paper is the artifact every other city reads before commissioning their own.

The audience is not the meeting attendees. It is the next thirty NCP candidates, the EU member-state authorities preparing for EED Article 26 enforcement, and the US municipal CIOs and sustainability directors who will read it before approving anything similar in their own city. The artifact is the carrier that makes San José cloneable.
